coach chris bennett:

Welcome to the to coach

tammie bennett:

Bennett's talking Podcast. I'm Coach Tammie Bennett.

coach chris bennett:

And I'm Coach Chris Bennett. This is where we talk about

tammie bennett:

anything we want. Yeah. Anything we want, like movies or music, running, not running life and what gets us excited? Fantasy and sci fi

coach chris bennett:

books?

tammie bennett:

No, we're not talking about that. All right,

coach chris bennett:

well, we'll talk about everything but fantasy and sci fi books.

tammie bennett:

So sit back or keep moving because it's time to start talking. Welcome to Episode One of the to coach minutes talking Podcast. Today we're talking about an escape room writing, getting our mojo back the power of the sun, Ted lassos, season three, Episode Six, otherwise known as the Amsterdam episode, what we love about being on a team, the magic of a sing along on a bus, we give a couple of our petty grievances. We talk about movies we wish we had waited to see. And we give you one or two recommendations for things that you might love. Here you go, this is going to be fun.

coach chris bennett:

Don't Coach Bennett? Good Coach Bennett. All right. Great. I'm gonna I'm gonna start by asking you. What's been going on? Tell me a little bit about this past week in your life.

tammie bennett:

Yeah, I think one thing that was really cool is I got to go see our son run in a 1500 meter race at night at Princeton campus, which is gorgeous, by the way, at least the track part of it is, and he ran really well, that was super fun. And then the next day or evening, I went into New York City to hang out with him. And we went to an escape room. And I am so proud of the fact that we escaped with two seconds to spare was awesome.

coach chris bennett:

Are you proud, because you planned it that you were going to wait until the very, very last moments to escape? Or did it really just take that long for you to figure out how to get out of the room.

tammie bennett:

It legit took that long. So it was my son, our our son and I and another couple, a man and woman and it was the four of us. And I think that we had sort of given up hope. I think that we had sort of like resigned ourselves that we weren't going to escape. Jack said when he looked at the clock, it was five seconds to go and he was like, Oh man, you know, and then I mean, I don't want to toot my own horn or anything. But I did the thing that got us to escape.

coach chris bennett:

Boop. That's your horn being tutored. So let me ask you this. What had panic start to set in? And at what point? First of all, how long do you have to get out of the room?

tammie bennett:

You have one hour.

coach chris bennett:

You have an hour,

tammie bennett:

you have an hour, and it took 30 minutes to go. We all started at 30 minutes ago, we all started to panic. We were getting like a little bit. I don't want to say like edgy but we were like, you know, you can hear us breathing.

coach chris bennett:

You can hear and whether it was note but no finger pointing.

tammie bennett:

No, no, no,

coach chris bennett:

we got along great. Yeah. Okay. Okay. But the tension in the room. The levels were increasing. Yes. It

tammie bennett:

was mutual, like all of us for in it together with tension against the world.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, and if time runs out, or I mean, are you are you punished in some way? Or is it just shame?

tammie bennett:

Just shame. Yeah, yeah. Because if you if you escape, they come in and they give you this big like bumper sticker that says, I escaped and they take your picture. And so then when you leave the building, there's people waiting for the next, you know, the next round of rooms to open up. So if you come out without the stickers, they know,

coach chris bennett:

they know. So it's like the scene and Game of Thrones was a shame. Bad but yes. Wow, that's intense. Yeah, well, I've never, I've never attempted but you

tammie bennett:

know, I bought you tickets for when we go next. I was so amazed and had so much fun that I instantly bought tickets for next time. So sometime this summer, we will be escaping a room together. All right. Wow. So what did you do this past week?

coach chris bennett:

Well, I feel like I got to escape from you because you went to the other side of the country and got to hang out with our son. So that was kind of a victory there. But yeah, well, this this past week. I've been writing a whole lot more, which is really good. I think that's probably what I'm most excited about is I feel like I've gotten a little bit of my mojo back, I went through a little bit of a writing desert, which happens it also happens in running, you go through these periods where you're, you know, low on inspiration and motivation. But yeah, so that's, that's kind of what I'm most excited about. So I put up a couple things. I've got a substack newsletter that I've been very consistent with. And yeah, I'm happy with I'm happy with how that's that's going so that's that's what I'm kind of looking Nothing is as you know, that was a concern of mine a few weeks back where I just said I'm I'm struggling here.

tammie bennett:

Well, both of us were I think for for several months of 2023 and I it's not lost on me that our Mojo's each individually came back after each of us were in the sun. So you got to go to Southern California the week before I went to New York, and you got some mega sunshine. And then a week later, I went to New York, New Jersey and I got some mega sunshine. And then when I came back, both of us had our Mojo's back and had been creating a lot more. So I think it's not lost on me that there is some connection there.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, now it's a real thing. That ball of fire and I get an understand why people worshipped it. Yeah, it makes sense. To me. It's, it is a powerful thing. And being that we are in the Pacific Northwest, where it is blooming. For a real long stretch of the year, just getting a little bit of sunshine, we always laugh that when we get a little sun, we're we compact and we think

tammie bennett:

everything's possible. We're like, oh, there's so much possible in the world. We can do so many things. I'm

coach chris bennett:

gonna learn languages, multiple languages,

tammie bennett:

I'm gonna braid literally. Like, can I just tell you I literally looked up what it requires to get a black belt in karate the other day when I was in the sun. And I was like, I think I could do it.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah. The problem is, is that by the time you had finished looking up all the requirements, it got cloudy again, and then you just shut the website. Oh, yeah, I

tammie bennett:

started there really quick.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, forget it. Yeah. But if we lived in like, a very sunny climate, you'd be a martial arts, you know? aficionado? Wouldn't you know, for sure you took karate, by the way, should we let everyone know that you took karate I did.

tammie bennett:

And I was very good at it for the few months that I was in it until I got pregnant and nauseous and had to stop. Yeah, so just blame it on on our children.

coach chris bennett:

Great job, kids.

tammie bennett:

What are we gonna talk about today? What's on tap? Well,

coach chris bennett:

I'm definitely not going to bring out Karate Kid. But because I think you're still you're still wounded from from your karate career ending. But yeah, what is the next segment of the show? Coach Bennett

tammie bennett:

are sort of with each other. We're calling it meat and taters. It's just sort of like the main topic of today's episode.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, I was unaware that that was what we had.

tammie bennett:

Well, that's what I wrote down on my paper. Yeah. mutators. We can call it whatever, whatever you want. Okay, I call it the cover story cover story would be great.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, we'll come up with something.

tammie bennett:

Okay. So what is it?

coach chris bennett:

Well, today, it's going to be Ted lasso in general, but specifically, season three, Episode Six known as the Amsterdam episode, because we feel like this one was not that season three has been anything less than exceptional. But this is a true return to form if not, maybe their best episode. I think they've they've ever had.

tammie bennett:

Yeah, and before we go any further, we should just say like, really loudly and clearly, spoiler alert, because we're about to talk about it. So if you haven't seen it yet, you can just skip over to later in the episode when we have a lot of other fun stuff that we're going to be talking about.

coach chris bennett:

Or just press pause. Oh, yeah, exactly. Go watch.

tammie bennett:

Yeah,

coach chris bennett:

watch it. What are you doing? Go watch it, then come back. And you'll have so much fun with us. So much fun.

tammie bennett:

Okay, so where do we start? So I think we should start with a question that you saw on Twitter, where somebody said, Who would if you're in Amsterdam for the night,

coach chris bennett:

who do you hang out with? Who do you choose to hang out with? Because you have a couple of choices. Okay, so think about it. You could you could hang out with Ted and his triangles. You could hang out with Jamie and Roy. You want it? You want to do a couple two?

tammie bennett:

Oh, yeah. I'm gonna forget names.

coach chris bennett:

You could you could hang out with the team as they try to figure out what in the world they're going to do in Amsterdam,

tammie bennett:

or you can hang out with Trent Krim and Caitlyn. Yeah. And they did it. Yeah, go ahead.

coach chris bennett:

You gotta figure this piggy Stardust as well. So you got coach beard.

tammie bennett:

Yeah. And then they didn't mention Rebecca and the boatman but I want to mention that just in case people want that option. And

coach chris bennett:

that's you shouldn't don't ruin that. Trude now, like come on.

tammie bennett:

I'm just saying that should be an option. No, I'm gonna do we'll come on. I don't think anybody would choose it. But I like having

coach chris bennett:

none of the other options ruin the night for the people involved. If you're there,

tammie bennett:

it would ruin it with your with Ted and triangles. No, he wouldn't have that experience if you're with us had some tea.

coach chris bennett:

So he's, he's gonna be fine. But I think Rebecca and the boatman

tammie bennett:

Okay, well leave Rebecca out of it. We'll leave Keeley out of it because she's with us. Jackson's with Jack on a plant rain, so we'll leave those out of it. I wasn't going to choose them anyway, I just felt like, you know what, I feel better that we at least mentioned their names.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, just stay away from them. Leave them alone. I'm just okay. So who would you hang out with?

tammie bennett:

Who would you hang out with?

coach chris bennett:

Oh, Colin and Trent Krim. For sure. That

tammie bennett:

was my number one choice. Yeah. Yeah, they're amazing.

coach chris bennett:

So let's just start there. Why would you want to hang out with them that night?

tammie bennett:

First of all, because Trent and his outfit and his socks and shoes were just amazing. And you just want to hang out with somebody like that. And the weight, just his whole demeanor, right? The way he carries himself the way he has this, like, quiet strength, and love and acceptance, I think is really compelling.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, he's become such a just breakthrough character we, Tammy and I have have compared him to he's like the Steve Harrington of Ted last. So that character that starts out and you're a little suspect, and by the end you're just in love with and you want to spend a night in Amsterdam with them? Because I would love Trent cream and Steve Harrington and Amsterdam. Oh, my gosh, right. Right. Good times,

tammie bennett:

but we're just locks to.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, they really do. I really do. But I'm with you. I think I would, I'd hang out with the two of them. I think also, you know, kind of sit on the other side of Colin, you know, and just telling them, we got you, you're good. We got your back too. But you know, and then just and then you get to go party with the two of them. And they just look like two really cool people. Yes. And I mean, I don't know really how to bounce her. I mean, she just bounced around. Let's bounce

tammie bennett:

around a little bit. I mean, I could say where I would if I didn't hang out with Trent. And Colin, I would definitely hang out with the team. There's just something so fun about I mean, we don't even have to get into the pillow fight. There's something so fun about just being in a room with people sort of getting mad at each other, but not real mad at each other and making jokes and saying funny stuff under their breath. I think something so cool about that.

coach chris bennett:

You mean being on a team being on a team? Yeah. Well, that's the part that I love. Maybe the most about the show, is how true to life. It really is. And I think if you've ever been on a team, I mean, we started laughing Tammy and started laughing within a minute and a half of kind of the storyline of the team saying this is exactly yeah, how it is. Where should we go? And then all hell breaks loose. Everyone's arguing no one can agree on where to go. And then once that's settled, well, what should we eat? Every different opinion. Here we go. And everyone's getting angrier and angrier. And time is going by and you realize this night is slipping away. And what ends up happening is is you realize you just want to be with each other. It doesn't matter where you go. Doesn't matter what you get to eat. And, you know, there's we watched, we should we should find the clip. Remember the clip you showed me of the Boston College player? Just gonna bring him up? I

tammie bennett:

swear to god, that's so funny. Yeah.

coach chris bennett:

So there's a interview, a press conference after a game and I believe it's probably after ball season,

tammie bennett:

I think. Yeah. And I think his season was done, right? He's Yeah,

coach chris bennett:

I think it's DC. And they asked him, What are you going to miss the most? And he just starts choking up and he almost can't respond. And he just says, going out to dinner.

tammie bennett:

Like and even. I'm like literally crying and have chills right now. It's everything.

coach chris bennett:

And it's 100% the truth. And he means what the team? He just misses. That's it. The kid just walked off the court have an NCAA tournament in front of 20,000 people you think, oh, getting to play in front of 20,000 people and you know, people cheering for you. And it's not it's going out to eat with your teammates. And Ted Larson nailed it. In this episode. So very, very cool. Yeah. The other thing was we started at the beginning the episode, we actually looked at each other. And we said, how are they going to get out of this? Because if you're if you've been watching TED last, so and again, if you have not been watching TED last, so why did you not hit pause and go watch it? So here's another PSA, if you haven't already hit pause, and you're someone who has not watched too long. So get out of here, go watch it, you can come back to us. But the team's not playing well. They're not on the same page. And we actually were like, how are they? How are they going to get this together? And somehow in this episode, they were able to get it all together for everybody, which was which was really magical. I mean, I don't know who you want to go with first. I mean, I think maybe go with Ted real quick. Okay. So he chooses, he ends up going out to dinner alone in Amsterdam, and I understand this, so well. He ends up going to like a place called something like the Yankee Doodle big burger barn, which is just basically Americanized an Americanized restaurant serving only American food, as they say, with American portions in Amsterdam. So you could go to any of these restaurants, these wonderful restaurants, and Amsterdam until Lhasa decides to basically go to just a glorified American restaurant where everything is over the top, they've got the Chicago Bulls up on on, you know, the old bulls with Jordan up on the TVs. They've got

tammie bennett:

giant things of onion rings and fried food. Yeah. But we

coach chris bennett:

realized as he walked in, like how hard it must be for him to be over in Europe. And not at home. Because this really doesn't it's not, this doesn't signify like onion rings, it signifies just being home and the people you care about. And it was actually a really, really touching scene. That's what that was a powerful moment for me. I don't know if you want to go into anything else while he's there. Well, I just going to touch on one more. One more thing. Yeah, it is so important, when you're coaching to to, I think, be in a really good headspace. And I think there was something that made him feel, I think, safe or closer to home or comfortable while he was there. Which is why suddenly he was seeing things differently. He was hearing things differently. All these things that maybe he took for granted that you know what makes him as a good coach, because he's really smart coach. Yeah. But there was something blocking him being able to coach as well as he could. And something released in gave way while he was in this restaurant. And he suddenly started seeing things differently. And he started noticing things differently. And suddenly he had you know, nothing less than an epiphany. I think that's that's also very, very true that sometimes you can it's not so much that you're not a good coach. It's just that something's blocking you from coaching the way that you can.

tammie bennett:

Yeah, I think I want to I came up with two things I want to say one is that yeah, I think when you can acknowledge something that maybe you haven't acknowledged, like, so I think for him, he's acknowledging his grief, of missing family and missing back home and just feeling like he's not totally comfortable, I think totally opened up that door to his thinking and stuff. And also, two more things. One is the tea, I think that he was giving credit to giving credit to the tea for having all these epiphanies and all these like the triangles and all that stuff. It was actually weak. So it wasn't the tea that did it. It was him coming back to himself and just realizing like, Oh, this is this Americanism is a important part of me. And I think also, one thing that I noticed was, he doesn't really come up with many plays many, like strategies, like on the field strategies throughout the seasons. And now, we're gonna see what happens. But he has come up with a strategy that they're going to try now. And I think it was nice for me to see him not only be a great coach, in terms of like, the mental emotional aspect, but also the strategy aspect. So I'm going to be really interested to see where that goes.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, that's a great point. And you know, not to be too cute here. But I think it is interesting that you would, you would probably say, he's a great coach. But he doesn't he's not great with the X's and O's, which is why I think it's fascinating that it was triangles. Yeah, because it's always X's and O's. And it was neither. He had to come up with the triangles. I don't know. I mean, I'm overthinking. But that's one of the reasons why I love great shows and great movies and good music because I read maybe too deep, but I don't think you can read too deep. You know? Because if the if the pool is deep enough, you can keep going right? I don't know if that makes sense or not. But I said it so yeah, that was that was a that was a really cool, cool scene. I think they just nail the coaching. So well. And it I like seeing that over and over again. Every chance I get because I think sometimes people think like the coaching is Oh, it's so cute. It's so nice. And it's like no, this is bad ass coaching. Yeah, the Titleist so gives this isn't just you know, hokey stuff. This is actually really kick ass. He's a he's a great coach. So, okay, well, we can talk about Rebecca and the boat guy, but I think we should really leave them alone. Space. Yeah, they have their space. And let's talk about the bromance. Yeah, we all we all love so much, Jamie tart. Roy can't tell us tell us a little bit about their night.

tammie bennett:

I mean, I don't even start

coach chris bennett:

on the bus though, because the team has no curfew. And Jamie's excited because he thinks he gets to go out. And Roy Ken says, No, we're gonna go train and they go out in the running around we're gonna fast forward a little bit. They're running all around Amsterdam Roy's getting tired. Jamie's full of full of vigor realizes that Roy's never seen a windmill before. And what happens?

tammie bennett:

So they decided they need to go take a bike right to go visit this real windmill because Roy thinking it's all fake. So Jamie finds these two bikes and you know, tries to get ready to get on it, and Roy doesn't. And you and I looked at each other. And I'm like, Oh, my God, he doesn't know how to ride a bike. Right? And that's indeed what happened. And you know, Jamie laughed at him. And but it turned into this amazingly fun, beautiful sweet montage of all the scenes of Jamie trying to or teaching Roy how to ride a bike right. And so many falls and so many mess ups and Roy feeling super vulnerable, but also really wanting to learn to honor his granddad. So he was willing to overcome all of this vulnerability and looking, you know, weak or clumsy or unathletic, in order to do this thing that honored his granddad?

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, it was an unbelievably beautiful sequence. That was such a good word to use the vulnerability one, and I was thinking, you know, as it was happening, you know, we pause it a couple of times, I think because, you know, I think we were so amazed that they were going to do it, and they did it. So well. I mean, the idea of teaching someone how to ride a bike, as you mentioned, that vulnerable part of the person trying to learn, and also the trust, that you have to give as you're on there, but at the same time, the person teaching you is so protective, and has to motivate you and get you back on the bike. If you fall, and fall and fall and fall. I mean, there was just so many, so many double meanings to everything that was going on, especially in this relationship. That it really it makes you realize how beautiful sometimes these things are, that are just a part of life, like learning how to ride a bike, that relationship you have with the person that helps you. And all of the things that it means Oh, yes, just it was I was so good, so good.

tammie bennett:

And then as a return for Roy's vulnerability, Jamie became vulnerable and told stories about his childhood and why he had been to Amsterdam and stories with his parents. And I think I think it's something that I talk about with my clients all the time is that when you can let that wall down, when you can let that guard down and share a hidden piece of you a vulnerable thing with someone else, it helps their wall fall down too. And you can connect so much deeper. And so when Roy gave Jamie the gift of vulnerability, and like willingness to look kind of weak, then Roy, I'm sorry, then Jamie gave that gift back to him and told him stories that I don't think he's ever told anybody on the team. And it was just this beautiful moment. And now they're like connection is so much deeper to each other, and they're gonna have each other's backs in such a deeper way. Yeah, so I just I just love that.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah. I mean, it's true, it's, it's an interesting way of looking at it is that by both of them being vulnerable, and opening up themselves to being weaker, and I don't mean that in a sense of like, they're acting weak. I just mean, you know, they're putting their arms out and saying, you know, basically, you can, you can hit me because I'm defenseless right now, because I'm telling you these things. And as a result, the relationship gets stronger. It's, you know, and I think in a way, they're also saying like that, that is, that is probably the most the strongest, either one of them have acted the entire show, other than maybe the scene from season two. Again, when Roy and Jamie kind of were you know, Roy was there protective of Jamie but Jamie, you know, accepted the hug from Roy. I mean, it's a very it's like a parallel kind of situation where they both took care of each other. Anyway, really beautiful. Just such an all around great episode, and then it ends obviously with the bus and a sing along which I'm a sucker for every single time you want to almost famous me, let's go.

tammie bennett:

Let's do it every time I'm every time Yes. And you know what, I want to put this out into the universe. I want to be on a public transportation someday, bus, train, plane, whatever. And have there be an impromptu sing along so that I can get on a bus like that before? Well, yes, that's true. That's true.

coach chris bennett:

And I'll tell that story right now. So back in 2011, I was coaching a heist, high school, track and field and this is that the which is coming up the Penn relays in Philadelphia, and the team I was coaching. The guys won the championship with American medley relay. And we had gotten something to eat and the bus we are driving the emerg didn't see light in the back never went off. So it was his red light that just kind of gave this glow to the entire bus or probably 35 boys on the bus. And Tammy was on the bus and all three of my kids were on the bus and they would have been, let's see, eight, six, and four. And you know, when you're eight, six and four, high school kids are rock stars. They're just the coolest people in the world. So we're on this bus at nighttime after this epic victory. And there's this wonderful reddish glow to the entire group. And then suddenly, I don't know who it was. But they just started singing. Do you remember the song?

tammie bennett:

I'm ashamed to say I do not. But I remember very clearly, the look on Jack's face when he was watching all of these guys singing their hearts out and just kind of looking up to them. And I literally will never forget that moment, even though I forgot the song. American Pie. Yeah. Oh, my gosh, I should have known that.

coach chris bennett:

And yeah, I remember the look on the kids faces. And especially Jack is he I think he had his whole body turned it was looking. And I do really think that played a huge seminal part in why they're all very, very teen first. Oh, yeah, kids. Yeah. Because it was it was it was pure magic. And I don't mean that in a figurative way. I mean, in a literal way. Yeah. There was magic. And looking back on it, maybe it's because of the red light, you could say No, those are just kind of those little eye flares. But there were pixies floating around. And magic. You know, dust was getting sprinkled everywhere, because that was just about a one of the best memories. So going back to what we're starting with at the beginning. And in the Richmond team and the Boston college kid. They won one of the biggest championships you can possibly win at the high school level. And I don't remember too much of the race. And if anyone asks about that day, I usually think about the bus ride first afterwards, because that was the best part. So yeah, beautiful. You've been on a bus like that before? Yes. Let's get on another one. You know if we ever have a Bennett camp again?

tammie bennett:

Oh, yeah, there will be singing on the bus for sure.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, whether it's high school again, or whether it's for adults. Yeah, there will be bus rides, and there will be singing on the bus rides. So be ready. Be prepared. Yeah, there we go. All right, we gotta move on.

tammie bennett:

We gotta move on. We have to. And the kind of funny thing is, is the next thing we're going to talk about is a direct one ad in terms of positivity and such. But I it's kind of like life, right? We have our beautiful, uplifting moments. And then we have a little bit of, you know, frustration. So but let's have fun with this. Let's talk about a petty grievance that we have. I like to share these are fun.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, it's funny, because in the trailer episode, this was kind of a joke that we brought up the petty grievances. And then afterwards, we're like, No, I like that. That's a nice, safe space to bring up these petty grievances. So do you want to go first, or I'm fine. I have stuff.

tammie bennett:

I got a list to friend.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, fine. Well, I'm gonna go first, my petty grievance is that I am expected to drive every single time we're together. And I know that because I'm usually the last one out of the house. And the driver seat is usually the one that Tammy is not in. She's in the passenger seat. So that's the dead giveaway. But that's not even my petty grievance. My petty grievance is that I'm a very good driver. And yet, Tammy complains every single time I drive.

tammie bennett:

I don't complain. I just point out things that point out thing driving,

coach chris bennett:

she complains, she makes noises. She puts her hands on the dashboard in front of us as if she's about to be launched through the windshield. When nothing is going on. She she calls out cars that are coming that were I already see and acts as if I'm an completely out of control driver. And it's fascinating to me, because even though it is such a roller coaster of terror to drive with me, she never gets in the driver's seat. So my petty grievance is that she is the worst kind of backseat driver because she's in the front seat. There's my petty grievance. All right. Go on sweet pay.

tammie bennett:

Mine is when I go into the bathroom and there is no well there's no more toilet paper on the roll. But there's a new roll of toilet paper, like on the sink, and it's literally like inches away. From where you would just put it on the little toilet roll holder. So instead of just like switching them out, nobody in our house other than me can just put the new roll on the holder. It's like literally I've measured it, it's like inches away from each other and it's not hard

coach chris bennett:

that is that is that is you should call this the pettiest of petty grievances. I

tammie bennett:

probably have some pettier once you have toilet paper

coach chris bennett:

in the bathroom. I mean, you're welcome. You're welcome. You know, I mean,

tammie bennett:

okay. All right. Let's move on. Let's let's pull something out of our mailbag.

coach chris bennett:

I don't know if I can move on from that petty grievance. But I'll do my best. So if

tammie bennett:

you don't know we have a Pio box that we welcome your mail. And so every episode, we will be pulling out something from our mailbag. Mostly, it's probably going to be questions from you, and we will answer them. But if you also want to send us you know, candy, stickers, books, cash, that's fine, too. But we'll be answering questions on the on the episode. So what do we have today?

coach chris bennett:

I love that. You're going to keep adding stuff each episode to what they can actually send us. Yeah, I like to give people ideas, because candy was added this week if you didn't notice, but yeah, yeah. Do you want to talk about what candy you enjoy real quick? Just name two things real quick.

tammie bennett:

Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, the fins? I like the thins better than like, you know the regular size. And I'm really loving the Haribo Sour Patch gummy bears that you like. I just like to eat from your bag.

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, so if you want to kill two birds with one stone, just get the Haribo Gummy Bear sour gummy bears. They are. Did I say sour? I don't I know. You said. I think you said gummy bear.

tammie bennett:

sour gummy bears. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

coach chris bennett:

I mean, the thing that's insane is it's I'm a big Sour Patch guy. They've made so much but odd. Want Sour Patch Kids?

tammie bennett:

Yeah. And Sour Patch is getting in trouble in California for having some ingredients that are not good. So maybe it's better we move on to hear about anyway. But it's fine if you're in Oregon. Well, I mean, I'm just saying Californians are like taking action. Okay, action. So mailbag.

coach chris bennett:

mailbag. Okay, this is a tough one. You ready? Do it? What book or movie did you see as a kid that you wished you hadn't seen? Until you were older? That's a tough question.

tammie bennett:

I got my answer.

coach chris bennett:

You got your answer? Okay. Yeah, I do

tammie bennett:

dirty dancing. I think I didn't fully appreciate what was going on. Yeah. I don't remember her name. The dancer that had the abortion. I don't remember her name. But I didn't understand what what was happening. Yeah, I saw it. And so therefore you miss this whole depth to the movie. Yeah, I didn't really understand. You know, what was going on. So anyway, when I watched it when I was older, I was like, Oh, okay. Okay, I get what's going on now.

coach chris bennett:

That's fascinating. That's a great, great choice. Because you're right. It is one of those movies that was predominantly seen by young kids. And I'm talking 1213 1415 I think it came out when I was in eighth grade. SoundTrack By the way, extraordinary. So good. So good. But yeah, there's a lot there's some class issues like there's a lot a lot going on, off going on and Dirty Dancing. Cheers to Patrick Swayze. Yes. And obviously, everyone else JENNIFER GRAY was was, you know, if you were if you were a fan of movies in the 80s cheese, those two kinds, just real quick roll offs from JENNIFER GRAY movies. I'm sorry. But Ferris Bueller. Red Dawn. Dirty Dancing, by the way. Patrick Swayze was also in Red Dawn with her. So anyway, that's a great choice, which is Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And here's the thing, it was, I think, because of my age, and I watched it very young. It was far scarier than anything else, because it's an alien movie. So I was very, very scared. And I looked at it as an alien movie, basically. And it's way more than that. It's way more than that. And there's a lot of different stories occurring at the same time. It's just an absolutely fascinating movie, but it's definitely written for adults, it's just it was Spielberg. And it involved aliens. And if you think of what's going on around that time with E T, Star Wars, aliens, it just seemed like a movie that kids would want to watch. And they were right. And I loved it as a kid. But it's a very different movie as an adult. It's also a great Richard Dreyfus movie. He's fantastic in it, as he was in Jaws, which was also with Steven Spielberg. So he I'd say close encounters a third time, which some people think is his best movie.

tammie bennett:

So good. That's a great answer to

coach chris bennett:

Yeah, there you go. Okay,

tammie bennett:

let's move on. Let's talk about what's floating our fancy this week. So this is where we give you a recommendation listener.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, I'm going to start. And I'm going to tell you why. Because I thought of your choice last week, which what was the name of the recipe book that you were talking about?

tammie bennett:

Blue Zones, kitchen?

coach chris bennett:

All right, Blue Zones kitchen in just two sentences. What was that, again, just so people have context for what I'm going to come up with.

tammie bennett:

That was a cookbook with 100 recipes to help you live to 100 that were taken from the blue zones around the world where people are living longer, healthier, and happier.

coach chris bennett:

Okay, so when you said that it got me thinking about a book that I read, called the nature fix by an author named Florence Williams. And this is basically the tagline underneath why nature makes us happier, healthier, and more creative. I've been running a series of trails near our house over the last couple of months that we kind of discovered accidentally, and it has changed everything that the loop I used to do is basically all rode when I wasn't running on Nikes campus. This one is all trail. And there's, since it rains a lot here. There's a kind of like a creek, and it's not a waterfall, and it's not a rapids, it's just a creek that can get very loud, and it's got a lot of rocks in it. So it looks like a mini version of one. But running past that and being through the woods is so so good for my soul. But if you read this books, you book you realize it is really good for your health, and your psyche, and your mind. And physically, nature actually plays a huge role in your health. So read the nature fix. It's absolutely fascinating. It's a whole series of different kinds of vignettes from different parts of the world with the science that backs it up. But yeah, I would say that's what's floating my fancy right now. And that was inspired off what you said. So it's a book called The Nature fix by Florence Williams.

tammie bennett:

Good. And I'll put a link to that in our show notes to my recommendation is a clothing rental company called newly and you you ly I am on a journey to come back to my personal style. And this is a great way to do it. Because you can rent the clothes if you like them. If you like how they fit how they look, then you can actually buy them. If you don't you turn them back in and pick new ones for the next month. And I have found some really cool things that I never would have chosen in the store. But since I just you know can rent them and send them back. I've chosen them. And I feel like it's it's been a lot of fun.

coach chris bennett:

Awesome. There we go. That's some cool stuff that's floating or fancies. Yeah. They may float other people's fancies,

tammie bennett:

maybe I will put a link to that in the show notes as well. And I think I even might be able to give you a discount code. If you use my link. We'll see. I'll hook that up. Whoa. So before we leave our friends and our virtual living room, let's talk about what is on deck what's coming up for each of us in the week ahead.

coach chris bennett:

You go first. Well, I

tammie bennett:

mentioned this in the trailer episode, but I'm just gonna do it again. Because it's sort of like consuming a lot of my time and energy and love. And that is the month long program I am doing for the month of May. And it is called dare to show up for your life. It's just going to be a really cool month where I give you a dare a day. And I help you get through it. We're all in it together doing really fun, fun stuff to make us just kind of feel like we're coming alive again. So I am right in the process of launching that and that's amazing.

coach chris bennett:

I love it. I love it. That's great. I've got some writing that I'm going to be doing is another coach Bennett's newsletter coming out. I'm also hoping this is this is kind of the launchpad of inspiration for me to drop. The companion is it would be companion or spin off. What did we decide for spin coach Bennett's podcast. Yeah, so there was the shop study podcast, which we're seeing spun off to coach Bennett's talking podcast, which then spun off the Coach Bennett podcast so I'm super excited about that. So Why have two favorite podcasts when you can have three? So this is this is where you're going to want to hear about that. If you subscribe obviously to this. You're going to hear about that if and hopefully you've already subscribed to Shep society podcast as well. I mean, that's what we should say. I mean, that's, that's the mother of all podcasts that we're talking about in our universe. Am I right?

tammie bennett:

I like it. She has birth to the dragons. She has

coach chris bennett:

birth the dragons. Game of Thrones. We're just going to end here on Tammy used to make fun of me for reading the Game of Thrones books, because they're fantasy books. And she would always say like, Oh, are you reading about bel Graf? And which I was like, No, that was actually from a different series of fantasy books I read. This is Game of Thrones, and then it came out. And I basically begged you to start watching it with me. And you became not just a fan, but a fanatic. You're a thrones girl. You loved it.

tammie bennett:

I admit it. Yes. Khaleesi. Okay, anyway, let's call it a day. We'll see you next week.

coach chris bennett:

Yes, thank you for listening.
